From June 26 to 28, 2018, 58 Religious Assumptionists living in Asia came together in Vung Tau (Cap Saint Jacques, Vietnam) for the second Asia – Oceania Forum, in order to get to know each other more, to learn more about the realities of the Congregation in Korea, the Philippines, Vietnam and New Zealand, but also to develop a common vision of the Assumption in Asia, to make proposals for future collaborations and to consider the forthcoming establishment of the Vicariate of Asia-Oceania.
10 collaborative proposals, 4 working groups
The latter aroused a great deal of interest among the brothers. The formation of the religious is a central point reflected in ten collaborative proposals developed in various working groups. At the end of the Forum, the brothers expressed their satisfaction with the journey and pledged to continue to know each other and to collaborate in order for His Reign to come. It is now a matter of keeping momentum and maintaining the spirit of the Forum, of enriching the reflections and of preparing minds and hearts for the establishment of the Vicariate of Asia-Oceania. Fourteen months remain, prior to the establishment of the Vicariate of Asia-Oceania. Four working groups have been set up: Formation, Communication, Finance and Statutes.
The next steps of reflection and sharing will be the 8th Inter-Asian Coordination in mid-January in Gwangju (South Korea) and the General Plenary Council (GPC) in June in Vietnam. In September-October 2019, the religious of Asia and Oceania will be consulted for the appointment of the Vicar, who will be able to begin his work on January 1, 2020.
